Payam Nahid
Biography
Dr Nahid is Professor of Medicine and Executive Director for the Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). With over two decades in global health, he specializes in TB and HIV/TB clinical trials. Dr Nahid co-led the pivotal trial of the 4-month rifapentine-based regimen newly endorsed for treatment of drug-susceptible pulmonary TB. He serves as Vice-Chair of the ACTG’s TB Transformative Science Group. He co-founded the Viet Nam National TB Programme/UCSF Research Collaboration, a key contributor to global TB research. As UCSF Programme Director and Senior Research Advisor for the USAID-funded SMART4TB Consortium, he oversees the network’s portfolio of diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccine research. Dr Nahid serves as Director of the UCSF Center for Tuberculosis and is principal investigator for the NIAID-funded UCSF-UCB TB Research Advancement Center (UC-TRAC), focusing on training and mentoring early-stage TB scientists. Specializing in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Dr Nahid provides clinical consultation at the UCSF Curry International TB Center. He has participated in multiple Guideline Development Groups and Task Forces within WHO and led various guideline development processes for the treatment drug-susceptible and drug-resistant TB in the United States.
