Professor Pedro Galvan

Biography

Professor Pedro Galvan is a biomedical engineer and Doctor of Science in biomedical research. He has developed, implemented, and delivered academic courses for biomedical technicians, clinical engineers, and biomedical engineering post-graduate students at the Polytechnic Faculty of the National University of Asuncion, Paraguay and at the Basque Country University in Bilbao, Spain.

He has conducted extensive applied research in the fields of e-Health, telemedicine, health technology management, and health technology assessment. He also authored several textbooks and academic manuscripts in the areas of biomedical engineering, IT use in the healthcare sector, and community epidemiological surveillance. Recently, he has concentrated his research efforts on the development, rollout, and evaluation of a nationwide telemedicine network for the remote diagnosis of prevalent diseases in a low-middle-income country.

Since 1998, he has served as member of a health technology assessment and regulatory commission at the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) during the regional integration process between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. He has also served as member on many scientific and advisory committees at international societies, including HTAi, IFMBE CED, GCEA, and ACCE.
