Professor Bo Norrving
Biography
Professor Bo Norrving graduated from Lund University and is currently senior professor in neurology at Lund University in Sweden and senior consultant at Skåne University Hospital.
Bo Norrving is a pioneer in clinical stroke research, with more than 600 publications. He was corresponding author of the landmark Swedish Aspirin Low-dose Trial published in Lancet 1991 – the 1st trial to demonstrate that low dose aspirin prevented stroke. He has led the world’s largest study on stroke in the young. He was one of those that started Riksstroke, the world’s 1st national quality register for stroke in 1994.
Bo Norrving was the President of the World Stroke Organization (WSO) 2008-2012 and led the WSO through a very progressive phase when WSO developed the World Stroke Campaign, advocacy by Stroke Support Organizations, WSO educational programmes, and became active at WHO and UN activities related to stroke and NCDs. He has been the WSO representative at WHO and the UN 2011 – 2019. He chaired the cerebrovascular group for the WHO ICD 11 revision. He has been active in the NCD Alliance, and was a member of the NCDA Science and Policy Committee. Bo Norrving has received several awards for his scientific and leadership activities.
