Biography

Associate Professor and Researcher at the UFMG School of Nursing, CNPq Productivity Scholarship. Post-Doctorate from Universidade Nova de Lisboa – in health evaluation, PhD in Collective Health in University of Campinas (2001), Master in Public Health from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Graduation in Medicine, medical residency in Pediatrics and Social Medicine. I worked as director of the Department of Surveillance of Noncommunicable Diseases and Diseases and Health Promotion, Ministry of Health, between 2004 and 2015. I participated between 2016 and 2017 in the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on the Prevention and Control of NCDs. I coordinated several national surveys on NCD: National School Health Survey (PeNSE 2009, 2012, 2015), Surveillance of Risk Factors by Telephone Surveys (Vigitel) 2006 and 2015, National Health Survey (PNS 2013), Accident and Violence Surveillance (VIVA 2005 to 2014). I coordinated the "Strategic Action Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Brazil, 2011–2022". I have more than 760 publications, on the topic of NCDs, population surveys, analysis of risk factors, studies on mortality, health assessment and others. I have experience in the area of Public Health, epidemiology, surveillance of chronic noncommunicable diseases, surveillance of accidents and violence, health promotion, evaluation of services andsupplementary health.
