Biography
Hiroaki Matsuura is Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Health Economics and Demography at Shoin University in Japan. Professor Matsuura’s areas of expertise include health economics, demography, and the roles of human rights and distributive justice in health, economic, and environmental resource allocation. Professor Matsuura has two Master’s degrees in the field of civil and environmental engineering and social sciences and a Doctor of Science degree in Global Health and Population. Professor Matsuura is an elected member of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics under the aegis of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Professor Matsuura is currently editor-in-chief of the academic journal Biodemography and Social Biology as well as associate editor/international advisor for Demographic Research, International Journal of Social Welfare, and Sociology of Health and Illness. Professor Matsuura’s previous work has included working for the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research, the World Tourism Organization, and the World Food Programme.
