Professor Isabella Eckerle

Isabella Eckerle, MD, is a clinical virologist and Head of the Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases at the University Hospitals and the University of Geneva. Her research interests are emerging zoonotic viruses and she has worked on coronaviruses since 2011 (MERS-CoV, HCoV-229E and SARS-CoV-2). Her research during the pandemic was focused on validation and development of novel and innovative diagnostics as well as on viral kinetics in different groups, and analysis of SARS-CoV-2 variants. The core area of her research group is placed between clinical translational virology, immune-virology, diagnostics and laboratory-based risk assessment of novel virus variants. She is on several expert boards for national and international institution on SARS-CoV-2 and pandemic viruses.
