Professor Masahiro Hashizume
Biography
Professor Masahiro Hashizume graduated from Nippon Medical School and obtained his MD with a MSc in Environmental Epidemiology & Policy and PhD from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Currently he is a professor in the School of International Health, Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo. He has published journal papers, book chapters and reports on associations between climate and climate- sensitive diseases such as leptospirosis, heat- related illness and the impact of environmental factors on health outcomes. In Japan, he is a chair of the Working Group for Assessment of Health Effects of Asian Dust and a member of Subcommittees for Climate Change Impact Assessment, Central Environment Council, of the Japanese Ministry of Environment. Internationally, he is a lead author of the chapter 10 in the 6th IPCC assessment report (AR 6) Working Group II. He also contributed to the WHO’ s publications on the regional synthesis report on climate change and health in the South Pacific as well as the data analysis for the climate change, water and health project in Cambodia. Professor Hashizume will provide insight with his expertise on health impacts associated to air pollution, dust and climate change with special interest related to climate sensitive diseases
