Professor Prasun Chatterjee
Biography
Dr. Prasun Chatterjee is an Additional Professor at the Department of Geriatric Medicine in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He has more than 10 years of teaching, clinical, and research experience at AIIMS, as a senior resident and faculty. Dr. Chatterjee has established himself as a trusted clinician who provides holistic healthcare to elderly patients and a dedicated academician who inspire the post graduate students.
He has several innovative research projects, in the field of Geriatrics and Gerontology, as lead investigator, including Harmonized Diagnostic Assessment of Dementia (DAD) for Longitudinal Aging Study of India (LASI). Cognitive impairment, being his primary research area of interest, he has also carried out many cutting-edge researches on frailty, fall, intrinsic capacity and community geriatrics. He has closely worked with the long-term care settings in association with a reputed non-governmental organization. Dr. Chatterjee has published more than 30 original works in peer-reviewed international journals. Bearing in mind the importance of preparation for active ageing, he wrote a book “Health and Well-being in Late life: Perspective and Narrative from India” published by Springer Nature Singapore Pvt Ltd.
Being a proponent of healthy aging in line with the ‘Decade of Healthy Ageing’, Dr. Chatterjee conceptualised and implemented the Intergenerational Learning Model, first of its kind in India, where educated elderly volunteers are imparting experiential learning to underprivileged school children.
Dr. Chatterjee worked with the World Health Organization Regional Office for South-East Asia as a consultant in the division of MCA and was involved in the preparation of the ICOPE Manual for nurses (Trainees Handbook) and Primary care physicians (Facilitator’s guide). Implementation of Integrated Care of Older People program in India and other SEAR countries is one of my important engagements. He is a part of the Clinical Consortium of Healthy Aging team and participated and contributed to the annual meeting.
