Ruben Proano

Biography

Dr. Ruben A. Proano is an Associate Professor and Graduate Director in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, USA. His research focuses on the application of operations research methods and models to solve problems that can enhance the accessibility and profitability of vaccines. Dr. Proano utilizes mathematical modeling, advanced analytics, and engineering tools to analyze the impact of vaccine market coordination, safety stock models, intervention prioritization policies, and data-fusing models for monitoring vaccine hesitancy. Dr. Proano's interest in vaccine-related issues led him to a sabbatical at the UNICEF Vaccine Center in Copenhagen, where he developed mathematical models to study the coordination of centralized safety stock for ebola vaccines. In addition to his research, he teaches courses in Operations Research and its applications to Production Systems and Logistics. Dr. Proano is an active member of the Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) and is committed to promoting the research efforts of underrepresented minorities in STEM.
