Prof Sabiha Essack

Nationality – South Africa
Sabiha Essack is the South African Research Chair in Antibiotic Resistance and One Health and Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
From June 2023 she served as the Chair of the WHO STAG-AMR and is co-chair of the Quadripartite Technical Group on Integrated Surveillance serves as the Senior Implementation Research Advisor to the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS). She serves on the advisory boards of JPIAMR, CARB-X, and the Fleming Fund.
Her expert opinion has been sought in the development of several AMR policies, research agendas, multisectoral coordination, and education and training programs. Her research focuses on the molecular epidemiology of AMR using next generation sequencing and bioinformatics as well as One Health systems strengthening in the context of AMR.
