Professor Sandhya Visweswariah

Professor Sandhya S. Visweswariah earned her master’s degree in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and a PhD in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. After working at AstraZeneca India, she joined IISc, where she served as Chair of the Department of Developmental Biology and Genetics and Co-Chair of the Centre for Bioengineering. Her research focuses on gut receptor guanylyl cyclase C, the target of bacterial toxins that cause diarrhoea, and on mycobacterial proteins involved in cAMP signaling. She is a National Science Chair and a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and the Indian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Visweswariah is an Honorary Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and an Honorary Visiting Faculty at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru. She is currently President-Elect of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and will assume its presidency in September 2027.
