Sergei Bodnev
Biography
Dr Sergei Bodnev is a biomedical scientist with more than 22 years of experience including 12 years of experience working with dangerous pathogens. Dr Bodnev heads the Laboratory of High-Consequence Viral Diseases at the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology “Vector”, housed in the Russian Federation Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing. This includes the Reference Center for Orthopoxviruses and Other High-Consequence Infectious Diseases.
From 2014 to 2016, Dr
Bodnev served with mobile anti-epidemic teams providing humanitarian
assistance and diagnostics services during the Ebola outbreak in West
Africa, and he is currently a member of the ECDC/WHO SARS-CoV-2
Characterization Working Group. Dr Bodnev is deeply engaged in
activities to optimize research equipment and systems for work with
dangerous infectious materials as well as in capacity-building programs
in the field of biorisk management at national and regional levels.
