Dr Shalini Pooransingh
Biography
Dr Shalini Pooransingh is a medical doctor and a certified public health specialist with more than 25 years’ experience. She currently serves as head of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care and the Caribbean Centre for Health Systems Research and Development at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago. Throughout her career, Dr Pooransingh has worked within the UK National Health Service and the World Health Organization. Her public health work has focused on health-care quality improvement, communicable disease control and health security capacity building through the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005). She coordinates the Master of Public Health (MPH) programme and has co-edited and co-authored the book Public Health in the Caribbean.
