Professor Shally Awasthi

Biography

Professor (Dr) Shally Awasthi is the Dean, Research and Development and Head of the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Education at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, UP, India. She is from India. She received her MBBS, MD (Pediatrics) and PhD from KGMU and has been a faculty there since 1988. She received her Masters in Clinical Epidemiology from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, United States of America. She is recipient of various national and international awards, and is a Fellow of all three national science academies of India, honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health – FRCPCH (Glasgow) – and member of International Epidemiology Association and the International Clinical Epidemiology Network (INCLEN).  

She has served on several WHO technical advisory groups of TDR/CAH and is/has been member/chair of various national/international research, policy and planning, academic, scientific committees/advisory groups. She has firsthand experience of working with multi-country, multidisciplinary teams. During the COVID-19 pandemic she has been in national and state level advisory groups for planning, preparedness and forecasting. She was closely involved in patient care during the pandemic. 

She has to her credit almost 300 publications. She is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health. Her research areas are in the field of epidemiology, child health, pediatric pulmonology, specifically childhood pneumonias and nutrition.
