Dr Shinya Tsuzuki

Biography

Dr Shinya Tsuzuki is an epidemiologist at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), Japan. He serves as the Chief of the Pharmacoepidemiology Division at the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Clinical Reference Center, where he oversees the surveillance of antimicrobial use in Japan.

His research primarily focuses on the development and implementation of strategies to combat AMR. In addition to his work on AMR, he leads multiple research projects in infectious disease epidemiology, including the burden of infectious diseases, the dynamics of the COVID-19 epidemic, and the quantitative evaluation of vaccination policies in Japan as the Chief of Applied Epidemiology Division at Disease Control and Prevention Center.

Dr Tsuzuki obtained his medical degree from Hokkaido University and worked as a clinical pediatrician before pursuing an MSc in Health, Population and Society at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He later earned his PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp.

From 2016 to 2017, he was seconded to Public Health England as a liaison officer for Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. He has held his current positions at NCGM since 2019.
