Biography

Dr Sholpan Kaliyeva, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Head of Clinical Pharmacology and Evidence-Based Medicine at Karaganda Medical University (KMU), Kazakhstan. Dr Kaliyeva earned her medical degree with honors from Karaganda State Medical Institute (1995). She holds a Candidate of Medical Sciences degree (2005) and became an Associate Professor at KMU in 2011.

With over 28 years of experience, Dr Kaliyeva has made significant contributions to healthcare reform in Kazakhstan, serving on numerous expert panels and commissions for the Ministry of Health's (MH) initiatives to advance medical education and clinical practice. From 2015 to 2017, she served as the MH's Leading Clinical Pharmacologist and is currently Vice President of the Professional Association of Clinical Pharmacologists and Pharmacists and a member of the EU Association of Clinical Pharmacologists.

As a strong advocate against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), she co-authored over 30 national clinical guidelines, including for COVID-19, and collaborated with WHO on AMR surveillance, serving as an independent reviewer for Kazakhstan’s AMR policies (2022). Dr Kaliyeva supervised numerous postgraduate students, promoting clinical excellence in Kazakhstan.

She authored 175 publications, including 36 international papers and 4 textbooks. Her contributions to the national healthcare system have been recognized with awards from the government.
