Dr Silvano Wendel

Silvano Wendel is the Medical Director of the Sírio-Libanês Hospital Blood Bank in São Paulo, Brazil, since 1983. He holds a PhD in Infectious Disease Department from University of São Paulo.

He is actively involved with several ISBT Working Parties. He is the Vice Chair of the Global Blood Safety Working Party. He was President of ISBT during 2010-2012, also served as chair of the Transfusion Transmitted Infectious Diseases Committee.

He has published over 200 papers on peer-reviewed journals.

For the World Health Organization, he served as chair of the Global Collaboration for Blood Safety (GCBS) and is currently involved with the WHO AG-BRAS - Advisory Group on Blood Regulation, Availability and Safety; and ECBS – Expert Committee on Biological Standardization.
