Simeon Pierre Choukem

Biography

Professor CHOUKEM is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Dschang (FMPS-UDs), Cameroon; Fellow of the Cameroon Academy of Science; and Senior Research Fellow at the Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford, UK.

He got his MD degree in 1998 from the University of Yaoundé 1 in Cameroon. He did his specialist training in Internal Medicine in Cameroon (2000-2004) and his subspecialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in Paris, France (2004-2006). He worked as clinical fellow and lecturer (Saint-Louis Hospital and University of Paris 7 Medical School) and research fellow (INSERM, Paris). Upon his return to Cameroon, he was posted as consultant in the Douala General Hospital (2008) and recruited as lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Buea (2010).

In April 2013, he passed the Professor of Universities-Consultant competitive exam in Paris. He is recipient of the Raymond Berger Award for Diabetes 2008 (Switzerland), the Albert Renold Fellowship 2012 (EASD), the IAS-Benjamin Meaker visiting Professorship 2014, University of Bristol, UK, and the Sir George Alberti Award for Diabetes 2017 (Africa). He is also a past-academic Editor of the Journal PLoS One. In January 2018, he was appointed pioneer Dean of the FMPS-UDs.
