Biography

Sukyoung Jung, PhD, is an Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, a leading government research institution in the Republic of Korea. Trained in nutritional epidemiology, she focuses on bridging epidemiology and health policy to address population health and sustainable food systems.

Her work examines how dietary patterns can improve health outcomes while reducing environmental impacts, with emphasis on strategies for mitigating climate change. She has a strong interest in the health and environmental impacts of ultra-processed foods and serves on the national working group developing a consensus on their classification and examining their health impacts, contributing to evidence-based strategies for healthier diets in Korea. She also serves on the 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Koreans Advisory Committee of the Korean Nutrition Society.

She has published and presented internationally on ultra-processed foods, sustainable diets, and noncommunicable disease prevention. She collaborates with academic and governmental partners to translate scientific evidence into actionable policies tailored to the Korean context while aligning with global efforts to achieve healthier, more sustainable food systems. She aims to strengthen international research networks and provide a robust evidence base for promoting healthy diets for everyone within planetary boundaries.
