Tone Øderud

Biography

Tone Øderud is a senior researcher with 35 years of experience in assistive technology and disability, working in Norway, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. She holds an MSc in Cybernetics and an MPhil in International Community Health. Tone has facilitated local access to wheelchairs and mobility assistive products in Zimbabwe and Namibia, and established hearing services for children in Tanzania and Ethiopia, developing “game-based tablet audiometry.”
She has participated in various EU projects, including a project utilizing digital technology to empower persons with intellectual disabilities. In Norway, Tone has contributed to the development of assistive technology services, implementing digital home care and using GPS to enable persons with dementia and chronic diseases to live at home. She has also explored wearable sensors for detecting pain in non-verbal individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Tone is employed at SINTEF (Stiftelsen for industriell og teknisk forskning, "The Foundation for Industrial and Technical Research) and serves as a Board Member of AAATE (Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe).
