Tana Wuliji
Biography
Dr Tana Wuliji is the Head of the Secretariat for HRP at WHO, overseeing international partnerships, finance, governance, knowledge management, research governance and research capacity strengthening with the dynamic Secretariat team.
Before joining HRP in 2025, she held a range of leadership roles at WHO since 2015 on health systems, universal health coverage and health workforce to establish major new initiatives – including the UHC Hub, WHO Academy, the Working for Health Programme, the UN High-Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth and the Global Health Workforce Network Gender Equity Hub and Youth Hub.
Tana has over 20 years of experience across 15 countries in leading large-scale international programmes, policy work and research across Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and Asia, including in health emergencies and fragile, conflict-affected and vulnerable settings. Prior to joining WHO, Tana worked with policy makers, civil society organizations, regulators, academia, the private sector, UN agencies and global health partners to strengthen and transform health systems performance, healthcare quality, health workforce and access to medicines and health products at country level.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), and brings a values-driven approach to leadership, grounded in a passion for science and sexual and reproductive health and rights, operational excellence and a deep commitment to health equity.
