Mr Timothy Wafula
Biography
Timothy Wafula is a human rights lawyer with over eight years’ experience in TB and human rights programming, advocacy, research, training, and litigation. Timothy has implemented TB and human rights projects in Kenya and engaged in regional and global advocacy for a rights-based approach to the TB response. Over the years, Timothy has championed the cause of people with TB and affected communities at national level, including in strategic planning processes, policy development as well as legal reform. He has championed #TBrights to community leaders, law enforcement officers, health care workers, judicial officers, lawyers, policy makers, legislators, among others. Relatedly, Timothy has led in generating evidence to inform a rights-based TB response, for instance, through community, rights, and gender (CRG) assessments, TB legal environment and human rights scorecard, and community led monitoring initiatives.
Timothy was part of the legal team in a case to protect the rights of people with TB that resulted in the government developing a TB isolation policy to provide a framework within which TB patients may be isolated in a manner that respects their human rights. Timothy currently works as a programme manager, HIV, TB and Key Populations thematic area at the Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN).
