Biography

Chair Nigeria AMR Coordination Committee (AMRCC)and Coordinator of National Infection Prevention and Control

Nationality – Nigeria 

Dr. Tochi Okwor is the Chair of Nigeria’s National AMR Coordination Committee (AMRCC) and the Coordinator of the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Programme in Nigeria. She has over 18 years of leadership experience in public health, AMR, and IPC at national, continental, and global levels.  

Under her leadership, Nigeria’s AMRCC has been established as a one-health committee with full participation of the quadripartite. She led the development of Nigeria’s second AMR national action plan (2024-2028). Furthermore, she played a pioneering role in the institutionalization of IPC in Nigeria through the establishment of the National IPC programme, “Turn Nigeria Orange”. She developed the strategy that utilizes a phased approach through Orange Networks to set up and support the establishment of IPC committees and teams at the state and health facility levels.   Dr. Okwor has participated in various global and regional AMR agenda endeavors. She is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the future of tackling AMR for the 2023-2024 term. 

Dr. Okwor is a Medical doctor with a Masters in Public Health (Lagos), Masters in Occupational Medicine (Manchester), Postgraduate Certificate in Infection Control (Essex) and a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
