Dr Tomofumi Sone
Biography
After graduating from University of Occupational and Environmental Health (UOEH), School of Medicine, Kitakyushu, Japan in 1986, Dr. Tomofumi Sone spent ten years at Department of Public Health, UOEH as a faculty member. He was awarded Doctor of Medical Science at UOEH in 1993 and Master of Public Health at Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States in 1994. He joined former National Institute of Public Health in 1997. Since re-establishment of current National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) Japan in 2002, he has experienced various positions, such as Head of Community Health System Section, Department Director of Public Health Policy, Department Director of International Health and Collaboration, Director for Planning and Coordination, and Vice President. He has been President of NIPH Japan since October 2021. He has been a representative of WHO Collaborating Centre for Integrated People-Centred Service Delivery, JPN-50, since 2011. NIPH co-hosted Regional Workshop on Leadership and Advocacy for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases (LeAd-NCD) with WHO/WPRO from 2013 to 2019.
