Tracie Muraya
Biography
Tracie Muraya is the Deputy Director for Policy & Strategy at ReAct Africa. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Rhodes University, South Africa, a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health from University of Liverpool and master's in public health (Global Health Policy), University of Suffolk.
With nearly two decades of experience in health systems strengthening, Tracie specializes in engaging diverse stakeholders, including policymakers to advance the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) agenda, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Her role involves coordinating advocacy efforts through national and regional AMR platforms to promote sustainable and equitable access to effective antimicrobials, strengthened health systems, and multi-sectoral collaboration.
She has co-authored and contributed to key policy-shaping documents, including the WHO’s One Health Priority Research Agenda (OHPRA), the United Nation’s Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD’s) report on ‘Investment Incentives for Local Production of Antibiotics in Kenya’ in 2020/2021, the Southern Africa Development Community’s (SADC’s) AMR Control Framework and Africa CDC’s survey of the role of Civil Society Organisations, as well as Kenya’s National Antimicrobial Stewardship Guidelines for Healthcare Settings, among others. She is also a member of the OHPRA expert group.
In her project management role, Tracie leads antimicrobial stewardship initiatives across Kenya and coordinates the implementation of AMR awareness programs targeting primary school children, contributing to a whole-of-society and proactive public health response to AMR.
