Varley Dias Sousa
Biography
Dr Varley Dias Sousa is Bachelor of Pharmacy from the Federal University of Alfenas (Unifal) in 2003. He postgraduated in International Health at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2006, and in health surveillance by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in 2008. In 2013 he completed his Master degree in bioethics and Public Health, and in 2017 he accomplishes his Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences, both at the University of Brasilia (UNB).
He was an analyst at National Regulatory Agency for Private Health Insurance - ANS until March 2005, when he joined the Regulatory Expert career in Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency - ANVISA.
In ANVISA he works on licensing medicines by 2007, and in the sector of certification of CRO and assessment of bioequivalence studies by 2014. He also serves as a GMP inspector.
Between 2015 and 2017 he was the secretary of the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia (Cofar) and member of the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia Commission, becoming the chairman in 2016 until 2021.
Between 2017 and 2018 he was the General Manager of Medicines at Anvisa, responsible for regulating the clinical trials, registration and post approval of medicines and biotherapics.
In 2018 he became an advisor at the International Affairs Office.Between 2018 to 2020 he was advisor and Deputy General Manager of Regulatory inspections.
He is currently a senior Directorate Adviser since 2020.
