Professor Wei Hao

Professor of Psychiatry

Biography

Wei Hao is Professor of Psychiatry in Mental Health Institute, Central South University, China, and Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Psychosocial Factors, Substance Abuse and Health.

 He is currently President of Chinese Association of Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (2015-present). He is on a number of WHO committees over the years, including Member of WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Mental Health, Brain Health and Substance Use (STAG-MNS) (2022-present); Member of WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Drug Dependence and Alcohol Problems (2006-present). He served on the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) from 2015-2020 as member and First Vice President. 

As psychiatrist, Dr. Hao has extensive experience on alcohol and drug policy and legislation development and implementation, and research on psychosocial and biological mechanisms of drug and addiction behaviors. He has published more than 300 papers as the first author or corresponding author and about 20 books as editor-in-chief.
