Biography

William Chen is the Michael Fam Endowed Professor and Director of the Food Science and Technology Programme at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (NTU). He is concurrently Director of the Singapore Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) and Director of the Singapore Agri-food Innovation Lab (SAIL). He leads FRESH team effort in developing NAMs methodologies for the next generation food safety risk assessment. William Chen’s food tech innovations, and his perspectives on food safety and food security have been regularly covered by major local and international media outlets. He is and adviser and consultant to overseas universities, Singapore government agencies, the food industry and various international organisations. These include the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Health Organisation (WHO). He has a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in science from the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
