Youssef Salam
Biography
Youssef Salam is a Lebanese prosthetic-orthotic practitioner with a special interest in bionics and myoelectric prosthetics and the application of digital technologies in prosthetics and orthotics. For over thirty-five years, he has extensive experience training personnel on prosthetic and orthotic applications throughout the Eastern Mediterranean and European regions, and working in low- and middle-income countries both in private and government centres. He completed his prosthetics and orthotics degree at the University of Minnesota and his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Biomechanics at the University of Toledo in Ohio, USA.
Youssef utilizes his experience in advanced prosthetic and orthotic digital technologies to enhance accessibility to assistive technology through transferring knowledge of traditional prosthetics and orthotics manufacturing towards digital, affordable and sustainable applications. He also utilizes his experience in practical training of prosthetic and orthotic professionals and technicians to promote the correct application of these technologies and safeguard against improper application. Youssef is passionate about supporting a strategy of enhancing access to assistive products utilizing digital technologies and applicable solutions worldwide, specifically in developing countries.
