Yuliya Chorna
Biography
Yuliya Chorna, a CSTF member from Ukraine, is a TB activist who closely works with civil society and the TB-affected community in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA). Currently, Yuliya is a PhD student at the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology, York University, Canada. Her research interests are in the anthropology of global health policymaking and financing; and medical anthropology as applied to Tuberculosis. In her research writings and dissemination, she particularly hopes to further advance knowledge on the meaningful engagement of civil society and affected communities in the TB response and quality dimensions of care. Yuliya is a Dahdaleh Global Health graduate scholar and a member of the Social Science and Health Innovations Network for Tuberculosis (SSHIFTB) at Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research, York University.
Yuliya also holds a master’s degree in social work, with the focus on community organization, policy planning and administration and has extensive work experience at civil society organizations. Her career includes working in the senior leadership positions for not-for-profit non-government organizations (NGOs) focused on social equity and rights in the fields of tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS. In 2018-2020 she worked as an Executive Director of TB Europe Coalition (TBEC), a regional civil society network which works to advance a people-centered TB care approach in EECA and build a strong united community of TB advocates.
Yuliya is a member of the Regional Collaborating Committee on Accelerated Response to Tuberculosis, HIV and Viral Hepatitis (RCC-THV), hosted by WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO Europe). In 2021-2022 she has been working with WHO Europe and TBEC on a range of initiatives for strengthening collaborations between multi sectoral stakeholders in EECA countries to address social determinants of TB, including through implementation of the Multisectoral Accountability Framework for TB (MAF-TB) and linked baseline assessments.
