Professor Zulma M. Cucunubá
Biography
Zulma M. Cucunubá, MD, MPH, PhD, is Director of the Instituto de Salud Pública and Professor of Epidemiology at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia), and Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London. An epidemiologist and mathematical modeller, she works on epidemic and pandemic preparedness and vaccine impact, and has advised governments and international agencies during outbreaks and health crises, translating models into decisions under uncertainty. Her work centres on innovation and digital infrastructure for public health in emergencies: she leads Epiverse TRACE-LAC, open-source tools for outbreak analytics, and the Epi Training Kit, a digital platform training thousands of professionals in dozens of countries in health data science. She also works on responsible artificial intelligence and its governance in epidemiology and surveillance. With communities, national authorities, PAHO and WHO, she advances open science, health equity and analytical capacity in Latin America, and builds scientific networks across the Global South.
