The WHO Academy’s mobile learning app was developed specifically for health workers and is designed to enable them to expand their life-saving skills to battle COVID-19. It delivers mobile access to a wealth of COVID-19 knowledge resources developed by WHO, including up-to-the-minute guidance, tools, training, and virtual workshops to support health workers in caring for patients infected by COVID-19 and in protecting themselves as they do their critical work.
With content in seven languages – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish – the app focuses on providing health workers with critical, evidence-based information and tools to respond to the pandemic.

The app has a new feature that deploys augmented reality (AR) technology to help health workers address a critical challenge that many face every day during the pandemic – staying free of infection while they care for patients. This 20-minute course demonstrates the proper techniques and sequence to put on and remove personal protective equipment (PPE), which are critical to keeping health workers safe.
The app is built around the needs expressed by 22,000 global health workers in a WHO Academy global survey conducted in March/April of 2020. The survey found that two-thirds of respondents feel they need to be more prepared for COVID-19 particularly in infection prevention and control, case management, use of personal protective equipment and occupational safety, and risk communication and community engagement. Overwhelming majorities of respondents said virtual learning on demand would be helpful in preparing for COVID-19 challenges, and that they access information on the internet via their mobile phones and tablets.

During this pandemic, when what we know about COVID-19 continues to evolve and new information comes out almost every day, we want every health worker to be able to benefit from the learning resources in this app. Please share in your networks the links to the WHO Academy’s mobile learning app in the Apple and Google Play stores, as above, and our social media materials below.
