The WHO regional meeting on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination will bring together national immunization programme managers, chairs of national immunization technical advisory groups (NITAGs), and representatives of NITAG secretariats from 12 middle-income countries, territories and areas that have introduced HPV vaccines.
The objectives of the meeting are to:
- review the progress in HPV vaccine programme implementation in the WHO European Region and discuss remaining challenges;
- present tools developed by WHO/Europe to support countries in generating demand for HPV vaccination; discuss countries’ experiences in using these tools to improve HPV vaccine coverage;
- present and discuss updated WHO recommendations on reduced-dose HPV vaccination schedules; discuss national decision-making on this topic;
- identify countries’ needs for further WHO and partner support in strengthening HPV vaccination programmes.
The outcomes and deliverables of the meeting are:
- increased awareness of tools available for national immunization programmes to improve acceptance of HPV vaccines and generate demand for vaccination;
- better understanding of updated WHO recommendations on reduced-dose HPV vaccination schedules;
- improved NITAG capacity to make evidence-based recommendations on HPV vaccination schedules;
- tailored future WHO support to countries in increasing HPV vaccine coverage and making informed decisions on HPV vaccination.
