Community Based Health Care (CBHC), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in collaboration with WHO shared the results of Independent Evaluation of Community Based Health Services in Dhaka, on 15 October 2019.

The evaluation, conducted by a team of national and international experts, aimed to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of Community Clinics (CCs) in delivering primary health care services and to identify their strengths and challenges towards the successful implementation of the Essential Service Package (ESP).

The assessment revealed the high importance the CCs play in local communities, as well as the areas that need further strengthening for CBHC to be able to meet its purpose i.e. to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, at all ages by increasing accessibility, affordability and utilization to quality primary health care services.

Over 13 000 CCs are functioning in the country as first point of contact for the integrated package of essential health services in rural Bangladesh.

WHO will continue its support for strengthening community based health services, an essential pillar in progressing towards Universal Health Coverage and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.
