WHO regional workshop on post-disaster mental health and psychosocial support

A two-day WHO regional workshop dedicated to strengthening capacity and preparedness for post-disaster mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) began in Dhaka today. The workshop will review the existing MHPSS capacity of SEARO member-countries and introduce and train participants on WHO tools. Participants will share experiences and good practices on MHPSS across member states, discuss a multisectoral public health approach for providing MHPSS and the health system response. The event will also focus on developing an outline to integrate MHPSS with the disaster management response plan at the country level and formulate strategies and recommendations for countries to strengthen community resilience and community action for mental health and psychosocial support.
