In times of COVID-19, don’t forget about antimicrobial resistance

This event will feature the release of the executive summary of the first joint EARS-Net/CAESAR report on AMR in clinical isolates across the whole region. Following remarks from leaders from ECDC and WHO, a scientific panel will discuss the results from AMR and antibiotic usage surveillance in both human and veterinary/agricultural sector.

Safe maternity care for all: the key role of infection prevention and control (IPC)

Maternal infections and sepsis are among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity, accounting for at least 11% of all maternal deaths. Most maternal infections and their consequences can be avoided by implementing appropriate IPC practices, antenatal screening and appropriate antibiotic use. This webinar will bring together global experts to discuss the maternity care and IPC intersection. WHO will also launch two new modules of the IPC training package for a safe care pathway for women and newborns.

AMR Youth Summit 2021

This youth-led summit aims to empower healthcare students all around the world while taking into consideration regional perspectives and different regional needs for AMR. The multi-day event is organized by the World Health Students Alliance (WHSA) including IADS, IFMSA, IPSF and IVSA as well as IAAS (representing dentistry, medical, pharmaceutical, veterinary, and agriculture students worldwide respectively).

A WHO Conversation on fungal infections and AMR

Resistance to antifungals is a mounting global public health threat. Existing antifungal drugs are often associated with important negative side effects. Few new drugs are under development. Fungal infections also frequently complicate other illnesses. This was most recently illustrated by the devastating impact of mucormycosis and invasive aspergillosis during the COVID-19 pandemic. This event will introduce WHO’s response to this problem including an initiative to develop a global priority fungal pathogens list of public health importance.
