Method of measurement
A tool to rapidly assess the onchocerciasis situation was developed by the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR). Rapid epidemiological mapping of onchocerciasis (REMO) uses geographical information – particularly the presence of river basins – to identify communities likely to be at high risk of infection. More information on distribution of the disease (regional and country maps) can be found here: https://espen.afro.who.int/diseases/onchocerciasis
Method of estimation:
Reports from onchocerciasis control programmes from Africa, Latin America and Yemen.
Preferred data sources:
Facility registers and other program monitoring tools
