Data type:

Indicator Id:
836
Topic:
Health service coverage
Rationale:
Cervical cancer is a preventable disease. It is also curable if detected early and adequately treated. The Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer as Public Health Problem set a target for countries by 2030: to have 70% of women screened with a high-performance test by 35 years of age and again by 45 years of age.
Definition:
Percentage of women aged 30-49 years screened for cervical cancer in the last year, in the last 3 years, in the last 5 years and in their lifetime.
Method of estimation:
National official recommendations for cervical cancer screening as well as screening coverage data from survey data and official administrative estimates were used to calculate the screening coverage estimates. The full details of the estimation process are available here: Bruni L et al. Cervical cancer screening programmes and age-specific coverage estimates for 202 countries and territories worldwide: a review and synthetic analysis. Lancet Glob Health 2022; 10: e1115–27.
