Method of measurement
WHO compiles data on the reported indigenous malaria cases, submitted by the national malaria control programmes (NMCPs). Data were reported from the laboratory or through case classification forms. Method of calculation:
Indigenous cases were reported based on the following: total confirmed cases, where no case investigations and case classifications had been carried out; total confirmed cases minus imported cases, where data were available; and reported indigenous cases for countries that were part of the eliminating countries for 2025 (E-2025) initiative and where the number of cases classified equaled the total number of confirmed cases. P. knowlesi cases were excluded in all three approaches.
