Global database of household air pollution measurements

The Global database of household air pollution measurements, commissioned by WHO, provides an overview of methods and results from studies reporting household air pollution measurements. This database currently contains measurements from 196 studies from 43 countries. This database is useful for understanding the range of household and outdoor air pollution measurements that have been taken in a country or region.

Users can query the Microsoft Excel database directly or export files into a statistical programme for more in-depth analysis.

The database was initially developed by researchers at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, India and the University of California at Berkeley, and was updated in 2018 by the Clean Cooking Alliance and Matt Shupler at the School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia.

A description of the methods used to identify and extract data from the scientific studies, along with a description of the database architecture can be found in the following background document.

To enable regular updates to this database, the authors urge readers who are aware of newly published studies or any that have been missed in this database to contact: householdenergy@who.int
