The Department of Health has informed today that there are no new cases of influenza A(H5N1) since the 16th case was confirmed on 3 January. Two suspect cases remain under investigation. Seven of the 16 confirmed cases recovered, 2 are in a satisfactory condition while 3 remain critically ill and 4 have died. Eight cases were in young children, 2 in adolescents, and 6 were aged between 19 and 60 years. Twelve of the 16 cases had onset of illness in December and were diagnosed in the period of intensified surveillance in hospitals and health care centres.
