Disease Outbreak Reported
As of 29 June, WHO has received reports of 3 993 cases of dengue fever including 8 deaths and 545 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever. The regions affected by dengue haemorrhagic fever are Francisco, Morazan, La Paz, Cortes, Olancho, Comayagua, Choluteca, El Paraiso, Yoro, Santa Barbara, Copan.
The measures taken in response to the
dengue outbreak in Honduras focus on community participation, and communication
strategies. Coordination of efforts in bordering areas with El Salvador for surveillance
and vector control are being undertaken.
The Ministers of Health for El Salvador, Guatemala and
Honduras will be meeting soon to discuss strategies in dengue surveillance, prevention and
control.
