Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Infectious Hazards (STAG-IH)

The Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Infectious Hazards (STAG-IH) was created following the recommendation of the Review Committee on the Role of the International Health Regulations (2005) in the Ebola Outbreak and Response (WHA69/21).

The STAG-IH provides independent advice and analysis to WHO Health Emergencies Programme on the infectious hazards that may pose a potential threat to global health security.

Terms of reference

The main functions of the STAG-IH are to:

• Assess the global context of infectious diseases;

• Provide analysis and advice on priority setting for WHO’s strategies and activities;

• Review information about new and emerging infectious diseases and ongoing outbreaks;

• Provide analysis and advice on innovative collaborations and partnerships;

• Provide technical and scientific advice on issues related to the Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility (PEF) and the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB).

Membership

The STAG-IH has between 10 and 15 members or temporary advisers, who serve in their personal capacity and who are selected by WHO taking into consideration inter alia their technical expertise, geographical representation and gender balance.
