Mr Haris Hajrulahovic

WHO Representative (Hungary)

Biography

Mr Haris Hajrulahovic has served as WHO Representative and Head of the WHO Country Office in Hungary since January 2022.

From 2018 to 2022 he was Programme Area Manager for Country Health Emergency Preparedness and the International Health Regulations (2005) at WHO/Europe in Copenhagen, Denmark. In this role, he led the development, implementation, and oversight of regional strategies and programmes to strengthen health emergency preparedness and compliance with the International Health Regulations.

Mr Hajrulahovic brings extensive country-level experience, having served as WHO Representative in the Republic of Moldova (2015–2019) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2003–2015), and as Acting WHO Representative in Bulgaria in 2023. In these roles, he advised governments on health policy and led the successful implementation of 6 major health system and public health strengthening projects.

He holds a degree in pharmacy from the University of Sarajevo, a postgraduate diploma in health systems management, and a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London. He also holds a Master of Disaster Management from the University of Copenhagen’s School of Global Health, and is currently a Policy Fellow at the Centre for Science and Policy, University of Cambridge.
