Technical Advisory Group on Behavioural and Cultural Insights for Health (TAG-BCI)

The TAG-BCI acts as an advisory body to WHO/Europe, supporting implementation of the European regional action framework for behavioural and cultural insights for health, 2022–2027.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe appointed the TAG-BCI members following an open call for experts and a selection process based on criteria that sought to ensure diversity in technical areas, professional fields and health areas. As a result, the TAG-BCI represents a broad range of disciplines relevant to BCI for health, including psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology, political science, and cultural studies.

The TAG-BCI has the following functions:

  • to identify and describe current and future challenges where BCI can be leveraged to improve health and well-being in the WHO European Region;
  • to advise WHO/Europe on the development of strategic documents and policy recommendations on BCI, particularly with regard to the state of the evidence and relevant policy innovations;
  • to advise WHO/Europe on strategic directions for prioritization within BCI to accelerate action towards broader regional and global health goals and strategies; and
  • to propose other strategic interventions and activities for implementation by WHO/Europe to meet the objectives of the BCI Unit.
