WHO’s response
WHO/Europe fosters inclusive, country-driven processes to accelerate the implementation of the One Health approach in countries. Specifically, WHO/Europe:
- supports national and local authorities in the implementation of the One Health approach;
- mainstreams the One Health approach across its workstreams; and
- builds capacities at country and regional levels by, for example, organizing workshops and webinars.
Regional priorities: advancing the implementation of One Health
The regional priorities for advancing the One Health approach in the Region are:
- strengthening governance, leadership, and partnerships by involving national decision-makers and key technical staff in One Health initiatives;
- strengthening prevention and preparedness for health emergencies, aligned with the International Health Regulations (IHR);
- promoting equitable, inclusive and sustainable solutions by ensuring all stakeholders participate in decision-making through transparent platforms;
- building evidence on the effectiveness of One Health with more data and research for action;
- facilitating the allocation of sustainable financing; and
- prioritizing training curricula that build core competencies and promote systems-thinking, in line with the “WHO-ASPHER [Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region] Competency Framework” and “Public Health Workforce Roadmap for the WHO European Region”.
