Nurses and midwives make up more than half of the health workforce and provide services from promotion and prevention to treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care, throughout people’s lives –from birth to death. In this International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, World Health Day 2020 will shine a spotlight on the vital role they play in providing quality health and social care, under the slogan “Support nurses and midwives”. The campaign will be used to mobilize action and encourage investments to strengthen the nursing and midwifery workforce.
The goals of the World Health Day campaign are to:
- trigger a wave of public appreciation for the work of nurses and midwives and the part they play in delivering health and social care;
- raise the profile of nurses and midwives within the health workforce;
- catalyse support and investment in nurses and midwives.
