The 5th Emergency Medical Teams (EMG) Global Meeting will gather the community of EMT providers, member states and partners to foster collaboration and support. The meeting is part of the WHO EMT initiative which aims to enhance preparedness and promote the rapid deployment and efficient coordination of Emergency Medical Teams adhering to minimum standards in order to reduce the loss of life and prevent long-term disability as a result of disasters, outbreaks and/or other emergencies - such as the war in Ukraine.
The 5th global meeting was slated for 2021 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic was deferred to 2022. Since the last global meeting in 2019, the Initiative and its network have made substantial strides, therefore making this meeting in 2022 significant and essential for member states and partners of the network to take stock of what has been accomplished, build on lessons learned, and guide the strategic direction of the Initiative and its network.
Under the leadership of the EMT Strategic Advisory Group, the EMT Global Meeting 2022 will convene over 500 participants from over 100 countries and organizations. The event will provide the network an opportunity to define the milestones for a longer EMT strategy—EMT 2030. The main goal of EMT 2030 strategy will be to identify milestone that strengthen National EMT capacities as part of the global health emergency preparedness, response, and resilience (HEPR) architecture.
Key events planned as part of the Global Meeting include:
- A high-level roundtable discussion at the presence of Ministers of Health and/or other senior governmental representatives, Intergovernmental organizations
- Meetings of the EMT regional groups across WHO’s 6 regions, as the main forum for Member States, EMTs and other stakeholders to drive regional implementation of the EMT Initiative
