“Although we already have experience in conducting research, participation in such trainings is very helpful and provides new skills that are very important for further work,” said Dr Tursun Mamyrbaeva, a professor at the paediatric department of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University and a member of the core group of the research project. “Participants liked the training process, which was held in a very friendly atmosphere and accessible format, including the practice interviews with health workers.”
“We are very grateful to WHO for the exchange of experience. We gained a lot of knowledge on qualitative research. We are now confident to be able to collect and analyse data of good quality for our research project,” added Dr Marina Duishenkulova who leads the BCI unit recently established in the Republican Centre for Health Promotion and Mass Communication, Kyrgyzstan.
Following the training, data collection will be organized through in-depth interviews with mothers and focus group discussions with health workers to gain knowledge on the barriers and drivers that affect breastfeeding practices in Kyrgyzstan.
