Expert meeting on digital marketing of alcohol

24 June 2023
Vilnius, Lithuania

Alcohol is a global risk factor for disease and Europe is the heaviest-drinking region in the world. In December 2021, WHO/Europe published ‘Digital marketing of alcohol: challenges and policy options for better health in the WHO European Region’. This included consideration of the threats to children and young people and other vulnerable groups related to the growth in digital marketing of alcohol, including the challenges posed for monitoring, regulation and control.

Next steps proposed in the report included developing intersectoral policy dialogues to implement policy considerations identified in the report, and convening an action-driven expert network on the digital marketing of alcohol.

On 24 June 2023, WHO/Europe will bring together experts to discuss scientific evidence in relation to digital marketing and its risks, regulatory approaches and implementation challenges and successes, as well as future directions for research.

The meeting is supported by the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and co-funded by the European Union.
